A Go-To Guide for Vitamins and Supplements

January 04, 2016

Part of living a balanced, healthy lifestyle is taking care of yourself. This means looking after your mind, body, and soul. For your mind, you might find a creative outlet such as writing or painting. To treat your body, many girls strive to eat a nutritious diet that consists of plenty of vitamin C, folic acid, iron, protein, and so forth. Diet alone doesn’t do everything for your body, though. So many women regularly exercise, drink plenty of water, and get enough sleep throughout the night. Those ladies who enjoy practicing yoga and hiking get a two-for-one deal, since those activities feed both mind and body. And, for the soul, there’s always chocolate.

In a perfect world, our diet alone would give us all the nutrients we need for radiant skin, high-energy levels, a fast metabolism, and a healthy heart. However, sometimes a girl just needs to indulge. Indulging in sweets and/or your favorite foods from time to time is perfectly normal; in fact, we encourage you to do this!

For those women who don’t eat a perfectly balanced diet every single day of the year, taking the right vitamins and supplements will make up for it. But, to many, the world of supplements is a confusing one, and reading through all the names, benefits, and facts about all the vitamins on the market are enough to make your head spin. Plus, you want something that benefits a woman’s body and dietary needs.

Don’t worry! This is where we come in. Below is our go-to guide for vitamins and supplements:

  • Multivitamins

At the very least, a good multivitamin taken daily will provide your body with all the nutrients you need. Plus, if you take one specifically for women, you’ll get a daily dose of essentials such as folic acid, calcium, and other nutrients that promote strong bones and immune systems.

  • Biotin

Do you wish for clear, young-looking skin? Perhaps you are envious of women with fuller, shinier hair? Or maybe you want your nails to grow long and strong? Biotin is an excellent supplement that gives you all of the above, and more! In fact, many women will tell you of the miracles biotin has done for their own skin, hair, and nails.

  • Fish Oil

Along with biotin, fish oil promotes healthy skin, hair, and nails. Plus, it supports heart health and promotes healthy blood. As if those weren’t reasons enough to take it, fish oil also helps with depression, lowers cholesterol, and even helps alleviate painful menstrual side effects.

  • Gingko Biloba

Extracted from the Gingko tree, this supplement increases blood circulation in the brain, enhances memory, and increases alertness—great for those ladies who want to get out of the fog and give their brains a boost.

  • Iron

Iron is a big one for most women. Since we menstruate, we lose iron every month, which may contribute to why so many ladies have low iron levels. If you eat lots of red meat, spinach, and kale, you might not need iron. However, it works wonders for those who do need it by delivering oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body.

  • Zinc

Zinc is important to add to any diet. This mineral strengthens the immune system and helps ward off diseases. For women who are pregnant, this is super important mineral to take.

  • Milk Thistle

Another mineral that boosts your immune system, milk thistle is blue-green algae that also works to filter out pathogen and toxins from your body. If you are looking for a way to protect and detox your body, this is a great supplement option.

  • Calcium-Magnesium

It is extremely important for women of all ages to add calcium and magnesium to their diets to strengthen their bones, teeth, and muscles. A combined supplement of calcium-magnesium does just that. When combined, both vitamins are better absorbed into your system.

However, it is important to note that if you do take this vitamin, do so separately from your other supplements. Also, make sure to take it on an empty stomach; otherwise, it can interfere with the absorption of your other nutrients.
