Methods for Cleansing and Detoxifying Your Body

Our body naturally works to cleanse itself of various toxins and excess minerals, but sometimes what’s being thrown at it is too much for it to handle effectively on its own.  This becomes especially true for those of us who aren’t as careful regarding good nutrition and our overall health, but that’s okay.  It’s not always easy and straightforward to take care of ourselves, particularly considering how busy and stressful life is for the average American.  We don’t always have the time or money to eat right, the time or ability to get plenty of sleep, or the opportunity to exercise like we should.  Take all of that into account, and it’s easy to understand why cleansing and detoxing our bodies is a good route to take.  Here’s a little more on the topic to make things even clearer.

The Benefits of Detoxing:

For one, detoxing your body helps to remove all of the toxins and excess waste that have built up over time.  It’s important to get these toxins out of your system because a cumulative buildup makes it harder for the liver and kidneys – the body’s filters – to do their job.  Toxins also build up in the colon, and, the longer they sit there, the more likely it is that they’ll make their way back into our systems.  Such excess toxins promote an environment of illness, making it easier for viruses and bacteria to take over, as well as cancerous cells to form.

Cleanses and various detox methods are also an excellent way to boost energy.  All of the unhealthy things we consume tend to make us feel sluggish.  Even when we do have energy, it doesn’t last, as these unhealthy foods – such as those high in trans fats – don’t offer the necessary nutrients to sustain high energy levels.  Maintaining good energy levels is beneficial not only in exercising, but also in stimulating the body’s various internal processes.  When we have more energy we also tend to be more productive, which in turn boosts self-esteem, because it gives us a greater feeling of accomplishment.  Feeling energetic also helps us gain more overall fulfillment in life, as we tend to find more joy in hobbies and social activities when our energy levels are higher.

Cleanses for All Your Detox Needs:

Liver Cleanse – The liver is an extremely vital filtration organ, as it’s what filters the blood and rids it of harmful toxins, and any other dangers present in the blood stream.  When targeting the liver, though, it’s important to be careful and not overwhelm it.  Apart from filtering the blood, the liver is also where our bodies metabolize medications and supplements; throw too much at it, and it can’t cope, causing damage that leads toward it shutting down.  Great methods for helping cleanse your liver without overwhelming it include drinking wheat-grass juice and apple juice, and consuming foods like celery, beets, carrots, and lemons.  Drinking plenty of water, and avoiding coffee and soda is crucial.  Consuming foods that contain glucosinolates, such as broccoli, kale, and cabbage, will also help remove toxins from the liver.

Colon Cleanse – Yeah, talking about the colon may not be ideal, but it is important.  Its function is to remove nutrients from the food we eat and send it to the rest of the body, and then send the remaining waste products on their way.  This waste, being the unhealthy, useless remains of our food, creates a toxic environment as it builds up over time.  To cleanse the colon, eat plenty of raw vegetables in order to increase your fiber intake.  Drink plenty of water and take a daily probiotic, and, for every four 8-ounce glasses of water you drink (32 ounce total) take a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar.  Do all of this for a full week.

Candida Cleanse – This cleanse takes anywhere from one to two weeks – depending on your preference – and is meant to remove excess yeast from your body (Candida is a yeast that causes fungal infections).  For this cleanse you’ll need to cut out sugar and fruits, and add a probiotic to your diet, as well as consume plenty of raw or steamed vegetables, like butterhead lettuce, onions, mushrooms, and asparagus, that don’t contain starch.  Add in a detox juice of your choosing, and you’re golden.

The Juju Cleanse – This is a popular cleanse for many people because of how simple and straightforward it is.  You’re only on it between one and three days, and you order premade juices specially crafted by Juju.  The cleanses come in three levels and offer a wide range of juices, some based more on fruits and various extracts, and others more on green vegetables.
